Panoscan’s New Panoramic Camera System is Twice as Fast!

Los Angeles, CA (August 2004) –Panoscan, Inc., a Los Angeles based manufacturer of ultra-high-resolution digital panoramic camera products introduced their innovative new Panoscan, Mark III, digital panoramic camera system at SiGGraph 2004 in San Diego.

The Panoscan Mark 3 is a major advance in panoramic capture. The MK-1 introduced seamless scanning, high resolution and high dynamic range imaging. The MK-2 captured up to four times faster and was capable of four times more light sensitivity. The MK-3 takes all that advanced technology and doubles the capture speed, increases the storage capacity and speeds file transfers with USB 2.0 connectivity.

The MK-3 is up to eight times faster than any digital panoramic camera in the world, with a capture rate of up to 260 million pixels per minute. This new feature allows the MK-3 to capture most human activity, making it a powerful tool for a variety of applications, including event documentation and tourism.

An ISO of 3200 and beyond, even at full resolution settings, makes the new MK-3 up to four times more light sensitive than any other panoramic camera, digital or film. This impressive capability makes it possible to shoot in both very low and very bright light situations. This feature is particularly valuable in crime scene capture, where lighting is seldom ideal.

Other features include an automatic black calibration shutter, that allows the camera to be operated in hostile and otherwise limited environments, and it also features an automatic 4 zone white balance for more accurate capture of changing light throughout the panorama. The MK-3 uses superior Mamiya medium format lenses, for maximum sharpness. A new, processor module allows for up to 80 gig of storage and increased battery life of 4-6 hours of continuous use. The system includes a rugged, customized travel case, and a modular architecture for easy future upgrades.

Panoscan products are the choice of a growing number of law enforcement agencies, including: San Bernardino and Kern County, CA Sheriff’s departments, Arlington police department, the Los Angeles County Coroner, and the Anti-Terriorist Unit of the Victoria Police Dept. in Australia.
